Mike Shpan Memorial Jeff Babb won the 2009 Mike Shpan Memorial with an undefeated 5-1. Waldemar Schulz took clear second with an undefeated 4.5-1.5. I had fully expected these two players to be paired in the last round, but apparently it was not to be. Arwin Dawa defeated Jonathon Zaczek to join him at 4-2 and 3rd/4th place.
Grand Prix-A Jay Khedkar surprised Tony Boron; the game followed Pirc- Alekhine, Bled 1931 for 8 moves; in both games, White was obliterated. As soon as that game ended, Lipnowski offered Kaptsan a draw as all placings were set, with Lipnowski taking first with an undefeated 4.5, Boron second with 3.5. Lipnowski - Kaptsan DRAW Boron-Khedkar 0-1 Grand Prix-B Czypinski dominated with 5-1, no one else could score better than 2.5 (Aaron and Jim Green). Greenberg-Aaron Green DRAW Czypinski-Jim Green DRAW Grand Prix-C This very competitive section was unclear until the final games were played; Stephen Lipic fought back to win in his Round 6 game to emerge with 4-2, half point ahead of Steven deGroot. Lipic - Arie Wasserman 0-1 Swift - deGroot 0-1 Grand Prix-D Richard Ott dominated with 5.5-.5, Shashika Kumararamage was second with 2.5 Leah Green-Kumararamage 0-1 Gibbons-Ott 0-1 Several Round 6 games are not in the database, they will likely be added on Thursday. Thanks to all who sent in their games.
