The Manitoba Chess Association will be holding a chess tournament this Saturday July 26 at the Medieval Festival on the grounds of the Immaculate Conception Church and Grotto in Cooks Creek, MB, 15 minutes northeast of Winnipeg.   The festival runs from noon to 6:00 with an active tournament (15 minutes per player) being held from 2:00 to 4:00.   No entry fee although there is a $10.00 gate admission fee to the festival.  Please arrive by 1:45 to register.   All players, both rated and unrated are welcome to join.  Prizes will be awarded in each category.

A further highlight of the Medieval Festival will be the holding of a live-person chess game at the evening banquet in which participants dressed in full costume will represent the pieces.   I don't know for certain, but this may be the first full-costume live-person chess game ever played in Manitoba.   A representative of the Manitoba Chess Association will be providing colour commentary during the game.   It should be quite an entertaining event.
