The Manitoba Chess Association will close out the year with a night of informal chess related activities.
We tried this in August; over 40 chess enthusiasts enjoyed several activities. It was such a success that we decided to try it again.
Renew acquaintances old and new !
Shoot the breeze about Carlsen's latest exploits
Shake off the rust with a few blitz games !
Listen to a lecture on pawn sacrifices from a Master !
Buy and/or sell chess books !
Drop in any time on the evening of December 13 to room 4CM42 at the University of Winnipeg.
There is no admission fee.
There are a couple of Scheduled events, but don't feel compelled to participate- you may wish to just hang out.
7:00 pm. Doors Open
8:00 p.m.: lecture: National Master Jonathon Zaczek on 'Pawn Sacrifices in the Opening. Free to all
Through-out the night (approx 7:00 - 10:30)
Informal games - pair off with another player - pick your time control and have some fun.
There will also be an opportunity to make room on your bookshelves by selling a few books. Set a price, put a post-it note or sticker with your price and name on the book,and bring it for potential sale to another chess enthusiast. There will also be a few chess clocks and chess sets for sale. |

Kevin Li won again, taking first place in the TOC with 5.5 - yielding only a draw to second place finisher Jonathon Zaczek. Young Theo Wolchock won the Shpan, going undefeated with 4 winds and 2 draws. The 2011 TOC and Shpan game files have been updated. Thanks to Les Mundwiler for compiling and to those that sent in their games. The Manitoba Junior file has also been updated - thanks to Jonathon Zaczek for compiling and recording the playoff games. Also thanks to the players who helped set up 4CM42 in 7 minutes last Tuesday !
