COMMENT: This year a small but highly competitive field, ideal for "class"
players trying to improve their ratings. Newcomer Tom Manicdao was
welcomed to the event. Michael Pang, returning to the tournament scene,
achieved an upset on board seven. The sensation of the round was Arie
Wasserman's "might-have-been" game on board one, where top-ranked
Samuel Lipnowski's risk-taking brought him within reach of "une petite
combinaison." But as Groucho said, "Close, but no cigar."
