COMMENT: Fast round for almost everyone except the players on board six.
Maybe in anticipation of this coming weekend's team tournament at an
active chess time control. An upset on board two puts Myron Kernetsky at the
top of the table with Trevor Vincent as players with 3/3 scores. Half a point
back are Tony Boron and Harley Greenberg. Juniors upset and upsetting: Michael
Pang scored well on board seven while Gary Campbell, on board five, showed
once again that there's no substitute for experience. Well . . . sometimes.

COMMENT: Endgame trouble! On board eleven Black suffered the
misfortune of resigning in a technically drawn endgame position. On
board nine the contestants grappled again with the subtleties of R+P,
while on boards six and eight, a protracted and heroic defence was not
sufficient to save the half point. With the upset draw on board three,
only Vincent, Nikouline, Mundwiler and Kernetsky have 2/2. |
