A couple of minor upsets with young Williams defeating Evans, and a not quite as young Trueman over Letain. The co-leaders with 3.5, Babb and Zaczek, have already played, so Schulz, with 3, will face one of them next week.

The draw-itis that had been afflicting the Grand Prix participants has now spread to the Shpan competitors. Paolo Araullo capped an impressive year of chess results by winning the Manitoba Junior Championship on Sunday, with a perfect 4-0 score 4 points Paolo Araullo (2180) 3 points Igal Raihman (1954) ......3 (won tie break), Leah Green (1268) 2 points Aaron Green (1980) Ryne Swift (1817) 1 point. Justin Villeneuve. (1214), Theo Wolchock (UNR) According to Jim Green: "Paolo didn't just roll either; Igal and Aaron both stretched him on Sunday for over 6 1/2 hours between them, but he came through it despite a headache." Congratulations, Paolo ! |
